Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

No Comments on Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Wow!  This year has gone by very quickly!  It seems like just yesterday we were solidifying our plans to make 2016 a year like never before.  Now here we are at the end of the year having accomplished all we set out to do and then some.  Yes, it has been a very unconventional year to say the least.  I voluntarily quit my job, we sold our house, we downsized all our belongings to fit in a 24’ trailer, visited Alaska and Canada over the course of several months, searched for a new job for 3 months, and finally landed a new job down in San Antonio.  Wow!  What a whirlwind.

Due to the generous time off policies General Dynamics has I’ve been able to take off the entire week between Christmas and New Years.  We hope to explore more of the area including a trip down to Corpus Christi to spend time on the beach during my week off.  How awesome is that!?  Hopefully the weather will not be all rain and clouds as it is forecast to be and we’ll be able to get some good pictures to share later.

No matter where you are we wish you a very Merry Christmas and happy New Years.  Remember the reason for Christmas as you hustle and bustle from here to there.

The seed promise:

“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”  Genesis 3:15

All the nations will be blessed:

“And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;  And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse.  And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”  Genesis 12:2, 3

The seed promise reiterated:

“Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven, and said, “By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.  In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”  Genesis 22:15-18

A King greater than David is promised:

“When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.  He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.  I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, but My loving kindness shall  not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.  Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”  2 Samuel 7:12-17

God is promised to be among us:

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”  Isaiah 7:14

The Son is promised:

“He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.  Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.’”  Psalm 2:7b-8

The Son is a suffering servant:

“For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should  look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.  He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.  Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.  All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.  By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off out of the land of the living For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?  His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.  But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.  As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities.  Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressors.”  Isaiah 53:2-12

Resurrection is foretold:

“For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.”  Psalm 16:10

The Savior is revealed:

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.  There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.”  Isaiah 9:6, 7

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.   Therefore He will give them up until the time When she who is in labor has borne a child.  Then the remainder of His brethren Will return to the sons of Israel.  And He will arise and shepherd His flock In the strength of the LORD, In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God.  And they will remain, Because at that time He will be great To the ends of the earth.  This One will be our peace.”  Micah 5:2-5a

“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20b-21

The way is made ready:

“Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the LORD, Make His paths straight!”” Matthew 3:1-3

We are called to repentance:

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”  Mark 1:15

“Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.””  Acts 2:38

“He again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “Today” if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”  Hebrews 4:7

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

All of His sheep will be found:

“I am the good Shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.  I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.”  John 10:14-16

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”  John 10:27-28

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”  John 6:44

“When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.”  John 10:4

“So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.””  John10:7

Jesus pays our penalty for sin:

“let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead – by this name this man stands here before you in good health.  He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone.  And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:10-12

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  II Corinthians 5:21

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

Salvation is offered freely (gift):

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9

“And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,”  Hebrews 5:9

Salvation sets us free from sin:

“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  John 8:32

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”  John 8:36

We will be resurrected to eternal life with Christ:

“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.  But each in his own order; Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.”  I Corinthians 15:22-23

“For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall all be in the likeness of His resurrection,”  Romans 6:5

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

All of God’s enemies will perish:

“And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,”  Hebrews 9:27

“The LORD arises to contend, and stands to judge the people.”  Isaiah 3:13

“But the wicked will perish; And the enemies of the LORD will be like the glory of the pastures, They vanish – like smoke they vanish away.”  Psalm 37:20

“But You, O LORD, are on high forever.  For, behold, Your enemies, O LORD, For behold, Your enemies will perish; All who do iniquity will be scattered.”  Psalm 92:8-9

“And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:15

Marriage supper of the Lamb is prepared:

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.  It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.  Then he said to me, “Write, Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”  And he said to me, “These are true words of God.””  Revelation 19:7-9

Christ will be praised forever – worthy is the Lamb!

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”  Revelation 5:12

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”  Revelation 5:13b

“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”  Revelation 22:12-13
